I took my son to a 2 week ski camp at Cardrona Ski Area. First time in New Zealand, and overall impressions are as follows:
Pros:
Ski during the summer
Amazing views
Awesome hospitality
Quaint town (Wanaka)
Can get in some mountain biking although its the low season for that
Cons:
Very little new snow; can be icy and hard packed
Small ski area
Can get crowded (Cardrona)
30 minutes drive to get there each day from Wanaka
Lift tickets are relatively expensive
I would definitely do it again; perhaps next time check out heli-skiing and/or backcountry skiing to find better snow. Coupled with a stay in picturesque Queenstown, overall its a rewarding experience.

Accommodations
Wanaka is the closest town to Treblecone and Cardrona. Some people opt to stay in Queenstown and make the drive, I don't recommend that as it requires driving through a longer mountain pass each day.
