The mountain itself is pretty awesome, a ton of side country to ski, tree runs, etc. I can imagine how good it would be if there was fresh snow. Unfortunately we were not blessed with great conditions. Many lifts were not open, and top of the mountain was icy. There were some good runs to be had, considering it was man made. The village is small and quaint, esp. when compared to big resorts like whistler. There were moderate lift lines on the weekend, so I can only imagine what it's like during peak season/conditions.
Transporation
Drive up from LAX to Mammoth took 6+ hours, mainly due to the fact that we left around rush hour. The drive back only took 5 hours and is not bad at all. The annoying thing about LAX is that for rental cars (and ubers) you need to take a shuttle bus from the airport. Turo used to be able to do curbside car dropoff, but that has also changed.
When to go
Mid Dec this year (2023) did not have any new snow, but historically Dec isnt bad (see below).

Accommodations
We stayed at the Village Lodge Hotel which is quasi ski in/out (closest lift is Village Gondola). The rooms were comfortable (large living room, balcony, full size kitchen), although the ski lockers are not conveniently located, and the outdoor jacuzzi very small.
